Heather Adlam

Heather began spinning in 1969 and this was followed closely by learning the art of weaving. Over the years Heather has attended many workshops on weaving and has developed a large number of different techniques.

Heather particularly enjoys loom weaving and has woven many yards of fabric, curtains, table mats and runners, cushions, bags and floor rugs. In 1996 Heather began a 6 year correspondence course from TAFE in Warnambool, Victoria, Australia from which she obtained a Diploma of Art in Tapestry Weaving.

Heather dyes many of the yarns she uses, she began dying yarns in the 70's, first using natural dyes and then moving on to chemical dyes as these are usually more colourfast.

Over the years Heather has entered the National Exhibitions and Fashion Parades of the New Zealand Spinning, Weaving & Woolcraft Society (now known as Creative Fibre), winning many awards.

Lately she has started using a new technique called "woven Shibori" to weave scarves which are then dyed to produce very interesting one-off pieces. Heather uses mainly wool in weaving but also enjoys using a linen, silk, and latterly alpaca "this fibre really appeals to me".
