Kobi Brinkman

In 1980 Kobi became interested in weaving and started courses in Hawera,
Taranaki. Joining the NZ Woolcraft Society gave her the opportunity
to further develop her skills. As a result she has been weaving scarves, jackets and jerseys ever since.

In 1998 Kobi became interested in tapestry weaving and started a correspondence course from Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia. The onsite workshops held for the course not only developed her tapestry weaving skills, but improved her dyeing, designing, drawing, painting etc. The course took 6 years at the end of which she gained a Diploma in Art, Majoring in Tapestry Weaving. Since the course she not only continues her weaving and tapestry weaving but has taken up painting. At times she will make a painting and then weave a rug in the same colours.

At the moment Kobi is exploring using exciting new accent yarns for her scarves, so that they become unique and distinctive. The rugs she weaves have become more interesting in recent years, introducing not only new exciting colours, but incorporating the fantastic mohair and Alpaca yarns which are available to-day.
